American ultra-high-end engineering, machined from solid aircraft aluminium, in a compact floorstander that performs far above its size.
The YG Acoustics Carmel 2 is the work of Colorado designer Yoav Geva, and it is built to a standard almost no other speaker at this size attempts. The cabinet is CNC-machined from solid billet aircraft-grade aluminium rather than moulded or panelled, then pressure-assembled into an airtight, acoustic-suspension enclosure so rigid and inert that the drivers work against a completely dead structure. The front baffle alone is 35mm thick, a piece of machining artistry shaped from subtle compound curves.
Both drivers are made in-house: a 25mm ForgeCore soft-dome tweeter, the same unit YG fit to their vastly more expensive Sonja and Hailey models, and a 7-inch BilletCore aluminium-cone mid-bass driver machined from a single block for exceptional rigidity and low distortion. They meet through YG's DualCoherent crossover at 1.75kHz, a design that optimises frequency and phase response at the same time, holding both flat and time-aligned in a way very few speakers manage. Usable bass reaches down to 32Hz, genuinely full-range from so slender a tower.
Neutral, transparent and effortlessly refined, the Carmel 2 brings a real taste of YG's flagship sound into a room-friendly floorstander. Speakers of this pedigree seldom appear pre-loved, and very little near the price gets close.
