Amazon's Amazon Music Unlimited has finally launched in the UK, a new rival for online streaming platforms such as Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music. The service offers 40 million songs, more than what is currently available on Prime Music.
The service is priced at £9.99 a month, but Prime members can enjoy it for a discounted price of £7.99 a month. Echo home speaker owners can also enjoy the service for just £3.99 a month, provided that they only use it on their Echo system.
Amazon Music Unlimited is similar to many others on the market, but the main difference is that it has more functionality for the Echo. For example, giving the "assistant" Alexa a line from a song can help her to find it. Users can also have the Echo speaker play music relating to a particular artist, decade, genre and even mood, simply by giving it a voice command.
What Amazon may find difficult is convincing its Prime users to convert to the new service, considering that many do and will continue to use the free Prime Music platform, that is already included in their membership.
Other than the fact that Amazon Music Unlimited offers a better voice control interface with the Amazon Echo speaker, there isn't much else to differentiate it from competitors. Users have access to curated playlists, radio stations and the ability to download music to play offline (ad free).
Do you think you will convert to Amazon Music Unlimited, or are you happy with your current music streaming service?
